Deschamps commits to Monaco

AS Monaco FC coach Didier Deschamps has signed a two-year contract extension until 2007.

Didier Deschamps has been rewarded for coaching AS Monaco FC to the UEFA Champions League final with a two-year contract extension until June 2007.

Successful spell
The 35-year-old, who captained France to victory in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2000™, was appointed Monaco coach in 2001 after his retirement from playing. In 2002/03 he led the club to win the French League Cup, and this season they reached their first Champions League final, where they lost 3-0 to FC Porto.

Cash injection
Monaco president Pierre Svara, whose club two days ago received approval from the French's league's financial committee for a €50m cash injection, said: "I announce that Didier Deschamps' contract has been extended for two seasons. The entire technical staff have also received contract extensions."

'Ambitious project'
Deschamps said: "I have the sporting and financial support to lead an ambitious project. We will carry on the adventure, and try to maintain a competitive squad and keep players who are currently in demand like Jérôme Rothen and Ludovic Giuly."
