Nedved eyes larger prize

Clear winner
The 31-year-old Juventus FC midfield player topped a poll of Czech journalists ahead of Marek Jankulovski of Udinese Calcio and AC Sparta Praha captain Karel Poborský. He has now won the award five times in the last eight years.

Trophy hungry
"To collect trophies is not tiring for anybody," he said. "However I would like finally pick up one for my team." Nedved was on the losing side in the UEFA EURO 96™ final as well as in the 2003 UEFA Champions League final.

Raft of awards
However he has won a raft of individual awards of late. He was selected as European Footballer of the Year last December and Czech players and coaches voted him their Player of the Year in February. He was also a member of uefa.com users' 2003 Team of the Year.

Baník at the top
Meanwhile, František Komnacky, who led FC Baník Ostrava to their first league title in 23 years, was voted coach of the year. Stade Rennais FC goalkeeper Petr Cech, who joins Chelsea FC this summer, was goalkeeper of the year and Filip Dort of SFC Opava was named Young Player of the Year.
