Gonzalo ruled out for season

Villarreal CF centre-back Gonzalo Rodríguez's season has been ended by injury, while Juan Manuel Peña will also miss Wednesday's semi-final against Arsenal FC.

Villarreal CF centre-back Gonzalo Rodríguez will miss the remainder of his side's UEFA Champions League campaign after tearing ligaments in his left ankle. The Spanish side travel to London to face Arsenal FC in their semi-final first leg on Wednesday, with the return fixture six days later.

Eight-week absence
Villarreal said the Argentinian international would need up to eight weeks before he could train again, making him extremely doubtful for the FIFA World Cup. The 22-year-old sustained the injury in Friday's Primera División defeat against fellow UEFA Champions League contenders FC Barcelona, whom Villarreal could meet in the final on 17 May. Gonzalo has been a regular in Manuel Pellegrini's side this season, featuring in nine of Villarreal's ten matches from the group stage onwards.
