Uğur Boral thinks big with Fenerbahçe

Uğur Boral says Fenerbahçe SK's goal "is to reach the final" as the Turkish side welcome Chelsea FC in "one of the most important matches in the club's history".

He made his UEFA Champions League debut against PFC CSKA Moskva on Matchday 6. He helped his side past Sevilla FC in the first knockout round. And now, Fenerbahçe SK left-winger Uğur Boral recognises a massive occasion in prospect for the Turkish title-holders in Wednesday's quarter-final visit of Chelsea FC.

Historic contest
"It is one of the most important matches in our club's history," Uğur Boral said. "We will make sure we give everything." The 25-year-old may be a UEFA Champions League novice, playing for knockout stage debutants, but he displays no inferiority complex against opponents seeking to win a fourth quarter-final in five seasons. "We respect Chelsea, they have a strong squad, but they should respect us too," the Turkish international added. "We have worked hard, studied them, and will take the necessary precautions on the pitch."

Clean sheet
Indeed, for all of the former Gençlerbirligi SK player's attacking instincts, he emphasises the importance of not conceding an away goal ahead of next Tuesday's return leg in London. "If we keep a clean sheet and score a goal ourselves, it would be a great result. The important thing is not to concede."

Speed merchant
Uğur Boral scored twice on his competition bow against CSKA and helped to create a couple more as Sevilla were beaten 3-2 in Istanbul in the last 16. A revelation down the flank for Fenerbahçe ever since Matchday 6, his turn of pace could cause Chelsea problems as Sevilla's Daniel Alves, for one, would testify. "The pace I have is my most important asset and you have to show your best qualities," Uğur Boral said. "The key thing is that the team play well and then I can show my ability."

No limits
If Zico's men can hit their stride, Uğur Boral believes the sky is the limit. "We have great confidence," he said. "I am a lot more confident than I was going into the game against Sevilla. Our goal is to reach the final. Of course, the sides left in the competition are really strong but if you do all you can on the pitch, you can win. We are confident of that and we will do it all day long."
