Former Genoa CFC coach Gian Piero Gasperini has been appointed to the FC Internazionale Milano helm on a two-year contract, taking the reins from Leonardo.
The 53-year-old becomes Inter's fourth coach in 13 months, following the departure of José Mourinho to Real Madrid FC, the dismissal of Rafael Benítez in December and now Leonardo's departure.
Former FC Crotone coach Gasperini led Genoa to promotion from Serie B in 2007 and qualification for the UEFA Europa League with a fifth-placed finish in Serie A in 2009. He was sacked in November following a disappointing start to 2010/11.
Inter said in a statement: "President Massimo Moratti confirms his satisfaction for the choice and, together with the board, wishes Gasperini to repeat the successes that led inter to the world champions title".
Gasperini will need no introduction to a number of the Nerazzurri, as Diego Milito, Thiago Motta and Andrea Ranocchia all played under him at Genoa. He will make his UEFA Champions League debut in the group stage after Inter finished runners-up to AC Milan last term.
