Sevilla swoop for Makukula

Sevilla FC have sealed the transfer of FC Nantes Atlantique striker Ariza Makukula on a five-year deal.

Deal goes through
The two clubs agreed a reported €3.5m fee a fortnight ago but Sevilla were obliged to wait to hear from the Congolese-born 23-year-old's former side UD Salamanca who, owning a 10 ten per cent stake in the player, were entitled to make a counter-bid. However, no offer has been made and the move has gone ahead.

Loan spell
Makukula, who has Portuguese nationality, spent last season on loan at Real Valladolid CF where he scored eight goals. His tally could have been greater had his season not been cut short when he tore a ligament in his right knee in the team's 3-2 league victory against Málaga CF on 25 January. Prior to spending the 2002/03 season with Nantes, Makukula had been on the books of Salamanca, CD Leganés, and Portugal's Vitória SC.
