It is very nice to be here again [in Lisbon, having previously played for SL Benfica] and to play in front of these great fans. It is good to get these three points. Always when you play against Sporting at this stadium it is difficult, and that is why we are happy we came away with three points.

They caused a lot of difficulties for us when we were defending, and also we did not use our great chances. In the 90 minutes we had maybe six, seven good chances that we did not use. But sometimes in football one goal is enough to win it.

We knew before that it was going to be interesting, that it was going to be tight [in Group G]. Now you see Maribor, and no one expected that they would take points from Sporting and Schalke, but they did, and they showed that in football there are no favourites. So until the end I expect hard work for us, but I hope we will win every game and we will make it through.

Matić delight at Chelsea win

Marco Silva, Sporting coach
We did not start as well as we wanted. We showed some nerves and Chelsea started strong as we predicted. We could not stop their moves and they have lots of quality up front. We were not compact. Then in a loss of concentration we were not quick enough in our marking and Chelsea scored. After that, we started to play. We took more risks in the second half. Chelsea could have scored but so could we, which we deserved.

We left an image of a side that wanted to win points tonight. We did not collect points, we were not close to a win, but we were close to a draw. Rui [Patrício] was outstanding tonight, as usual. He had lots of work today but he is in very good form.

José Mourinho, Chelsea manager
We won three points, which was good. The points are what matters. We lost points at home and now we got them back. Now we will have two matches with Maribor, we have four points now and if we win both we will have ten, so job done.

At the end I told Rui Patrício "you wanted to spoil my night!" Sporting could have lost by more, but it could have also been a draw. It would have been unfair. Although being an inexperienced side Sporting managed to play their game and they have the quality to qualify.

[John Terry's 100th appearance in the UEFA Champions League] is a huge milestone for him, especially because they were all made at the same club. He has made history in the competition, entering an elite group.

João Mário, Sporting midfielder
We knew that we were meeting a very strong team and Chelsea had the best of the first half, but we came back in the second and had some chances, but we didn't manage to find the goal. We are a young team, so we have to learn. I think we are growing. We will keep on making our way in the championship and the Champions League, and I am sure the victories will come.

We know that we are in a difficult group with strong teams. The Champions League is played at a very high level, at great intensity and high quality, so we will try to be lucky and see where we end up. Of course [qualification is possible]. There are four games left and we will try to get as many points as possible.
