The Champions League quarter-finals always prove to be a tough test and that was the case again today. The game was very similar to the first leg in Manchester. Arjen [Robben] and Franck [Ribéry] were fantastic in the second half today. We tried to play in between the lines with Thomas [Müller] constantly on the move.

But it is never easy against an English team. They play solid and quick counterattacking football and offer very little space to play into. [Patrice] Evra scored a great goal for the opener, but we responded immediately. I am very, very proud of my team. Everyone always says it is easy to win the Bundesliga title and continue playing at a high level, but it is not. The players ran their hearts out today and worked really hard. They deserve to be in the semi-finals.

David Moyes, Manchester United manager
If you're a schoolboy you're told not to concede straight away – and we did. We needed to give ourselves five or ten minutes but they went up and scored. We have got enough experience on the pitch where we should have done it [protected the lead]. I am really pleased with the performance, but a couple of small errors cost us in the end.

[Bayern] are a really good side, they showed it. I thought we did what we had to do, made it difficult for them. Tactically we tried to stifle them, for long periods we did that. If you lose a goal straight after you score, it makes it difficult.

[Next season] we've not got Champions League football – but we are not far away. Hopefully it will only be for one year. We are going to rebuild and we are focused to get the team back in the competition. There is no shame going out to Bayern, they are a good side. We played really well and showed the qualities we have got.
