Salas to miss rest of campaign

Juventus FC will be without Marcelo Salas for the rest of the season after he suffered a knee injury.

Juventus FC striker Marcelo Salas looks set to miss the rest of the season. The Chilean international damaged the meniscus cartilage in his right knee while training with his national team.

Weekend surgery
The injury was announced by Chile's team doctor Fernando Radice last week but Juventus medical staff wanted to check all the documentation concerning the injury before allowing Salas to undergo surgery in Chile. The 28-year-old will go under the surgeon's knife on Saturday and return to Italy two weeks later to continue his recovery.

Two months on sidelines
Salas faces up to two months on the sidelines and as a consequence will probably not return to action until next season. Currently in his second season with the Bianconeri, Salas missed almost all of last season's campaign at the Delle Alpi Stadium after suffering another serious knee injury just two months after joining Juventus from S.S. Lazio.

Champions League fixtures
This season 'El matador' has played eleven matches in the league, scoring once. Salas has also played four times in the UEFA Champions League, scoring once. Juventus face city rivals Torino Calcio on Sunday and FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on 9 and 22 April.
