Petr Čech has been reflecting on his 2015, telling the Arsenal website: "On a personal level, I am happy with the way I kept my level of performance going. The transition from Chelsea to Arsenal made me happy as well, as I think when you make such an important decision you always wish that it works out for you.

"The way everything happened for me is exactly the way I wished, so I can be happy with that. The fact that I stayed fit and I was able to train and play a part in the little minor things is important because your body is the working tool and you need to be fit to play the best way.

"We qualified as a nation for another European Championship," he added. "For a small team like the Czech Republic, we haven’t missed it since 1996 - it is an absolutely amazing achievement. We were changing the generations and we still managed to qualify.

"My personal [goal for next year] is the same as the team's. I’m a team player and there are team trophies ahead. Winning the league plus another competition - it could be the FA Cup or the Champions League, whatever - that would be a brilliant year for us. Hopefully we can achieve that in 2016."

Arsenal did not impress at home against a struggling Newcastle side, but an opportunistic finish from Laurent Koscielny on 72 minutes was enough to secure all three points for Arsène Wenger's men. Arsenal have won six of their last seven games in all competitions and have taken sole command at the top of the Premier League, with Leicester unable to find a way past Bournemouth.

Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard will undergo a scan on Monday after leaving the field just 16 minutes into his side's 3-0 victory at Crystal Palace. "Hazard sprained his leg – he has a little problem with a groin muscle," explained interim Blues manager Guus Hiddink. "We will see more with an MRI scan tomorrow."

Overall, the Dutch trainer was left encouraged by the club's first win since he took over from José Mourinho. Chelsea lie 14th, but Hiddink believes his charges can surge up the standings and clinch a top-four berth. "There is a long way to go – mathematically the possibility of Champions League is still there," he said.
