Catanha becomes Celta casualty
Saturday, September 13, 2003
Article summary
Catanha will miss the opening two matches of RC Celta de Vigo's first UEFA Champions League campaign.
Article body
RC Celta de Vigo will be without striker Catanha for three weeks due to a groin injury.
Surgery ruled out
The 31-year-old forward, who has been suffering from the problem for the last ten months, has undergone a number of scans and tests over the past week. However, the Primera División side decided against surgery, which would have ruled Catanha out for between two and three months, opting instead for a period of rest and recuperation.
Significant loss
Catanha's loss is a significant blow to Celta, who make their UEFA Champions League debut on Tuesday night away to Club Brugge KV in Group H. With Catanha missing that game, and also highly doubtful for the second match, at home to 2002/03 winners AC Milan, Celta coach Miguel Ángel Lotina is set to have just Serbo-Montenegrin international Savo Milosevic as his only striker.
