McManaman out of action

Real Madrid CF will be without Steve McManaman for their UEFA Champions League match against Panathinaikos FC this week after the England international injured his back.

Real Madrid CF will be without the services of Steve McManaman for their UEFA Champions League match against Panathinaikos FC this week after the England international injured his back.

Three weeks
McManaman is likely to be out of action for up to three weeks following the injury in last Wednesday's Copa del Rey game against Lanzarote. He also missed Saturday's 2-1 league victory against Club Atlético Osasuna and has not been called up for Tuesday's clash with the Greek side at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

'Still hurts'
"It still hurts and I think it will be two or three weeks time before I'm ready to return to the team," said the 29-year-old on Madrid's official website. The injury leaves the midfield player in a race against time to play again this year with Madrid playing their last game before a two-week Christmas break on 23 December at RCD Mallorca.
