Manchester United FC manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wes Brown will be sidelined for "six weeks to two months" with a knee injury.
Medial ligaments
The England defender missed his side's 3-0 UEFA Champions League win over Boavista FC at Old Trafford stadium on Wednesday night after damaging his medial ligaments in training on Monday.
'Not as serious'
Sir Alex said: "He has an examination tomorrow [Thursday] and it's not as serious as we first thought. It's his medial ligaments and I think he will be out for six weeks to two months."
Broken nose
Brown's injury is particularly worrying for Sir Alex because Laurent Blanc broke his nose against Boavista and Gary Neville injured his groin, while Ronny Johnsen and David May are already in the treatment room.
Top of the group
Ruud van Nistelrooij scored twice for United, either side of Blanc's first Champions League goal, to fire the English champions to the top of Group A on goal difference ahead of the winter break.
