AS Monaco FC captain Ludovic Giuly faces an anxious wait after suffering a foot injury that could keep him out for up to two months.
Injured against PSG
The 27-year-old midfield player fractured his right foot in a collision with Paris Saint-Germain FC defender Gabriel Heinze in last Friday's 1-1 draw. Giuly said subsequent tests had revealed "signs of a fracture to the metatarsus", the middle part of the foot that includes the five bones between the toes and the ankle.
More tests needed
There is hope that Giuly could be back in action in a fortnight, but he will have to wait until next week before knowing the full extent of the damage. Regardless, the player is almost certainly out of France's 18 February friendly against Belgium in Brussels and could miss Monaco's UEFA Champions League first knockout round first-leg match against FC Lokomotiv Moskva in Russia on 24 February.
Giuly refused to be too downbeat, despite the frustration of missing key games. "That's part of a player's life," he said. "But
I'm confident my team-mates will be up to the situation." His absence will be felt as he has been in fine form again this season, scoring eleven goals in 22 domestic outings, while also finding the net twice in five Champions League games.
