Chelsea FC will be without Portuguese international full-back José Bosingwa for the rest of the season after the club announced he required a further operation on his left knee.
Bosingwa, 27, was originally sidelined in October before undergoing arthroscopic surgery in November. The former FC Porto defender was due to be out for three months, but Chelsea have now confirmed he will have to go under the knife once more. He will not feature again this season and will also miss this summer's FIFA World Cup.
The Blues are already without first-choice left-back Ashley Cole with a fractured ankle as they attempt to turn round their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie against FC Internazionale Milano on 16 March. Chelsea welcome Inter, coached by former manager José Mourinho, to west London trailing 2-1 in the contest.
