Arsenal get Vieira green light

uefa.com brings you the latest UEFA Champions League injury news from the 16 team camps.

uefa.com rounds up the weekend's injury news that affects the 16 clubs in UEFA Champions League first knock-out round first-leg action this week.

FC Bayern Munchen v Real Madrid CF:
Bayern goalkeeper Oliver Kahn and midfield player Michael Ballack should be available despite missing Saturday's 1-0 victory over Hamburger SV with a sore back and bronchitis respectively. However Bayern may have to do without defender Robert Kovac, who has a thigh injury, and Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro, who is nursing a sore ankle. Madrid midfield player Luís Figo came through a substitute's appearance against RCD Espanyol relatively unscathed and is expected to be available. Defender Iván Helguera suffered a knee injury but is also expected to be fit. Midfield player Santiago Solari has a nerve problem in his leg and will undergo physiotherapy.

FC Lokomotiv Moskva v AS Monaco FC
Several Lokomotiv players have injury problems, although Dmitri Loskov (ankle), Oleg Pachinine (back) and Deividas Cesnauskis (hip) should all be available. However there are question marks over Marat Izmailov, Ruslan Pimenov and Maksim Buznikin, who face late fitness tests. Monaco skipper Ludovic Giuly looks set to miss out after failing to fully recover from a foot injury but he will still travel with the rest of the squad. Shabani Nonda, Josef Oshadogan and Sébastien Squillaci will also travel despite injuries, while defender Julien Rodriguez bruised his right foot during Friday's win against Montpellier Hérault SC but should recover by Tuesday.

RC Celta de Vigo v Arsenal FC:
Celta forward Jesuli limped off after just eight minutes of Saturday's match against Málaga CF with muscular problems. He will undergo further tests today. Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has been passed fit for the first leg against Celta in Spain despite injuring a knee in Saturday's 2-1 win at Chelsea FC. "It's OK today," said manager Arsène Wenger. "The swelling has gone down so he will start the game."

AC Sparta Praha v AC Milan:
Sparta coach Jirí Kotrba has no new worries, with defender Martin Petras the only absentee with a long-term injury. Defenders Tomáš Hübschman and Petr Johana are back after serving a domestic suspension at the weekend. Milan defender Alessandro Nesta and striker Jon Dahl Tomasson are both doubtful after picking up injuries in Saturday's 3-2 win over FC Internazionale. Coach Carlo Ancelotti said Nesta was "almost certain" to miss the Sparta game. Alessandro Costacurta is likely to deputise. Striker Filippo Inzaghi and midfielder Massimo Ambrosini are both fit again and likely to be included in the squad.

RC Deportivo La Coruña v Juventus FC:
Deportivo midfield player Juan Carlos Valerón is coach Javier Irureta's main doubt. The midfield player is reported to be suffering muscular problems. Juventus striker David Trezeguet and defender Igor Tudor were rested at the weekend because of slight knocks but should be available. Defender Alessandro Birindelli has recovered earlier than expected from a thigh strain and is expected go be on the bench.

FC Porto v Manchester United FC:
Maniche, is coach José Mourinho's major doubt. The midfield player suffered an ankle injury a week ago and did not play against Vitória SC at the weekend. Unavailable through long-term injury are forward Derlei and wingers César Peixoto and Marco Ferreira while Costinha is suspended. Russian playmaker Dmitri Alenichev is available again but short of match fitness. Manchester United rested Louis Saha against Leeds United AFC with a slight niggle but the France international is expected to return on Wednesday and make his Champions League debut. Ole Gunnar Solskjær came on for his first appearance in five months after 71 minutes and is also in contention.

Real Sociedad de Fútbol v Olympique Lyonnais:
Real coach Raynald Denoueix has no new injury worries at present. Lyon will be without captain Claudio Caçapa after the Brazilian defender suffered a recurrence of a knee injury during the 2-0 win against Le Mans UC 72. However Brazilian international Juninho Pernambucano returned to the side after recovering from a knee injury and looks certain to play. Striker Giovane Elber and defender Jérémie Berthod remain doubts, however.

VfB Stuttgart v Chelsea FC:
Stuttgart
striker Marco Streller missed the defeat against 1. FC Kaiserslautern with stomach problems, but, along with Hakan Yakin, is ineligble to play Chelsea. Chelsea winger Damien Duff could make a comeback after two months out with an Achilles injury while striker Hernán Crespo has a virus but may still be well enough to play.
