Champions League by numbers

Scoring feats by Lionel Messi and Sinan Bolat, and landmark appearances from Andriy Shevchenko and Javier Zanetti are among the numbers crunched in UEFA.com's season review.

UEFA.com reviews the facts and figures from the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League (group stage onwards). More statistics can be found in UEFA.com's dedicated section.

0 Maccabi Haifa FC's group campaign ended without a goal or a point – but in their last five games they lost by the narrowest possible margin, suffering five straight 1-0 defeats against FC Bayern München, FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Juventus.

1 Number of away goals by which Club Atlético de Madrid pipped APOEL FC to third place in their Group A tie-break, before going on to win the UEFA Europa League.

2 Only two men, Ernst Happel and Ottmar Hitzfeld, had won the European Champion Clubs' Cup with two different clubs before José Mourinho emulated their feat this season.

3 Liverpool FC picked up just three yellow cards in their six-game campaign.

4 Record-equalling single-match tally of goals by Lionel Messi in the second leg of FC Barcelona's quarter-final with Arsenal FC, amounting to half of his overall top-scorer total of eight. Only five other men have managed four in a UEFA Champions League game.

5 Minutes into added time Sinan Bolat headed an equaliser to give R. Standard de Liège a 1-1 draw against AZ Alkmaar and third place in Group H – the first time a goalkeeper has scored from open play in the UEFA Champions League. The same day Jörg Butt converted a penalty for Bayern against Juventus.

6 Years since the previous final with no English clubs, when Mourinho's FC Porto beat AS Monaco FC.

8 Number of newcomers in this season's group stage: AFC Unirea Urziceni, APOEL FC, AZ Alkmaar, Debreceni VSC, FC Rubin Kazan, FC Zürich, R. Standard de Liège and VfL Wolfsburg.

16 Points secured by Bordeaux in Group A, the highest of the round.

18 Number of national champions in the group stage, the highest since 1999/2000.

19 Shots on target by Bayern in their 2-1 quarter-final first-leg win over Manchester United FC, the highest single-match tally this season.

19 Goals conceded by Debrecen, equalling the unwanted group-stage record jointly held by FC Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08) and another Hungarian side, Ferencvárosi TC (1995/96).

30 Number of fouls sustained by Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

40 Jens Lehmann was 127 days into his fifth decade when he played his last UEFA Champions League game in VfB Stuttgart's round of 16 second-leg trip to Barcelona. His first appearance in a UEFA competition fixture was an Under-18 qualifier for West Germany against Switzerland on 11 May 1988.

66 Percentage of possession Barcelona had in their campaign.

100 Andriy Shevchenko and Iker Casillas both reached a century of UEFA Champions League appearances this season, joining an exclusive club of 13 – but Barcelona's semi-final exit left Xavi Hernández stuck on 99.

130 Number of UEFA Champions League games now played by Raúl González, ten more than anyone else – the same margin by which he leads the all-time scorers' table with 66 goals.

320 Goals in this season's UEFA Champions League.

326 Days from FK Mogren winning 2-0 at Hibernians FC on 30 June 2009 to kick off the first qualifying round until the final in Madrid.

700 The number of competitive Inter appearances Javier Zanetti reached in captaining them to victory in the final.

1,170 Minutes played in the competition by Butt, Philipp Lahm, Júlio César and Zanetti in 2009/10 – ever-presents from Matchday 1 to the final.

7,100,000 Estimated minimum amount of euros received by each team that competed in the group stage.
