A meeting of two former European champions and holders FC Internazionale Milano beginning their defence against a competition newcomer are among the stand-out fixtures on UEFA Champions League Matchday 1.

A tough looking Group G – which features three former winners of the competition – starts with Real Madrid CF hosting AFC Ajax while in Group A, Inter travel to group-stage debutants FC Twente. A British derby between Manchester United FC and Rangers FC catches the eye in Group C, as does AS Roma's Group E trip to last season's runners-up, FC Bayern München.
