• CFR had two players sent off for the second successive away game – Emmanuel Koné (42) and Rafael Bastos (64). Cadú and Lacina Traoré saw red in the 3-0 loss to FC Sportul Studenţesc Bucureşti on 20 August.

• The defeat spelled the end for coach Andrea Mandorlini and he was sacked on Monday and replaced by Sorin Cârţu, who has signed a two-year contract. The Italian Mandorlini had replaced Antonio Conceição in November 2009 and led CFR to the league and cup double last season.

• Summer signings Tomás Costa and Ferdinando Sforzini made their CFR debuts against Rapid.

• CFR are 40 matches unbeaten at home in the league, a record that stretches back to 6 April 2008 and a 2-1 defeat by CS Pandurii Lignitul Târgu Jiu. They have lost just two home league games in the last four seasons.

Injury news
• Yssouf Koné, who is not in the UEFA Champions League squad, suffered knee ligament damage in CFR's win against FC Victoria Brăneşti on 2 August.

• Saša Bjelanović picked up an ankle injury in the 2-2 draw with FC Astra Ploiesti on 13 August.

• Scott Chipperfield made an instant impact off the bench as Basel recovered from two goals down to earn a point against a Young Boys side they defeated 2-0 on the final day last term to take the title.

• Despite losing two of their opening eight games Basel are five points better off than at this stage last season.

• Alexander Frei has scored six goals in Basel's last three games in all competitions and eight goals in seven league starts this season, including a hat-trick against Neuchâtel Xamax FC on 28 August.

Injury news
• Cabral came on as a late substitute against Young Boys after recovering from a muscle injury that had kept him out of action since the start of August.

• Jacques Zoua has been ruled out for four to six weeks with torn thigh muscle fibres suffered on Cameroon duty.

• Marco Streller scored on his first appearance of the season against FC Sheriff on 24 August after recovering from a thigh problem. Valentin Stocker has not played since sustaining an ankle injury in Tiraspol.

• Genséric Kusunga has been out with a knee problem since Basel's 1-0 defeat at AC Bellinzona on 7 August.
