• Madrid showed four changes to the team held 0-0 in their Liga opener at RCD Mallorca on 29 August, José Mourinho's first competitive game at the helm. Pepe returned following a calf injury, Sami Khedira replaced Lassana Diarra, Mesut Özil started in place of Sergio Canales and Karim Benzema was preferred to Ángel Di María.

• Ricardo Carvalho scored his first league goal in almost two years, since registering in Chelsea FC's 3-1 win at Manchester City FC on 13 September 2008.

Injury news
• Cristiano Ronaldo (ankle) and Lassana Diarra (hamstring) were both in the squad for the visit of Osasuna after recovering from knocks which forced them to miss their country's UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers.

• Pepe was also involved following a left calf problem but Fernando Gago (sprained left knee ligaments), Ezequiel Garay (right knee) and Raúl Albiol (sprained right ankle) remain sidelined.

• Kaká could miss the group stage after undergoing surgery on his left knee in early August.
