• Chelsea's 100% start to the Premier League season was ended by Carlos Tévez's sixth goal in his last six matches against the Blues.

• The defeat was Chelsea's first in the league since a 2-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur FC on 17 April.

• Joshua McEachran, 17, made his Premier League debut.

• Carlo Ancelotti's team have scored 54 goals in their last 14 league games, conceding six.

• Chelsea went 669 minutes without conceding in the league between Gareth Bale's effort in the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham and former midfielder Scott Parker's late consolation for West Ham United FC on 11 September. They scored 35 times in between time – a Premier League record.

• Chelsea's six-game winning start to the season ended on 22 September with a 4-3 loss to Newcastle United FC at Stamford Bridge in the League Cup third round. It also ended a run of seven successive home victories for the Blues, since their 1-0 defeat by Inter on 16 March.

• Patrick van Aanholt and Jeffrey Bruma made their first starts for Chelsea against Newcastle, the former scoring his first goal for the club.

• The English champions lost 3-1 to Manchester United FC in the FA Community Shield on 8 August.

Injury news
• Gaël Kakuta (leg), Yossi Benayoun (calf) and Salomon Kalou (thigh) all picked up injuries against Newcastle as Chelsea finished with ten men having used all their replacements. Kakuta was an unused substitute at Manchester City but Benayoun and Kalou have been ruled out for three weeks.

• Frank Lampard has not played since a hernia operation at the end of August.

• José Bosingwa has not featured since October 2009, when he suffered a knee injury. He played 55 minutes in a friendly for Chelsea's reserves on 22 September.

• On 20 September Hilário suffered a rib injury in training. He had just returned to action following a tonsillectomy.

• André Ayew struck twice as OM recorded their first away win of the season at AC Arles-Avignon on 18 September, prevailing 3-0.

• Didier Deschamps' team began the season with defeats by SM Caen (2-1) and Valenciennes FC (3-2), their worst start to a campaign since 1985/86.

Injury news
• Lucho González (calf) missed the Arles-Avignon win but returned with a goal against Sochaux. Diawara also started after recovering from a thigh injury sustained in pre-season.

• Rémy returned against Sochaux after picking up a groin injury during France's loss to Belarus on 3 September. His arrival from OGC Nice was delayed after tests revealed a heart condition, but he was subsequently given the all clear.

• For the first time this season Deschamps had a fully-fit squad at his disposal for training on 21 September.

• Leyti N'Diaye has not played since injuring his shoulder in training with Senegal on 2 September.
