Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny said it was "a great feeling" to have signed a new long-term contract with UEFA Champions League contenders Arsenal FC.

Szczęsny, 20, is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Gunners but was on the bench for their 2-1 defeat at FC Shakhtar Donetsk on Matchday 4. He made his debut for the club in the League Cup third round in September 2009 and made his only appearance of the current campaign in the same competition – keeping a clean sheet in the 4-0 fourth round victory against Newcastle United FC.

"I'm now looking forward to continuing the hard work on the training pitch and doing my best whenever I have the opportunity," he said. Manager Arsène Wenger added: "We are delighted to secure the long-term future of Wojciech, who we regard as a very important part of our club's future." Arsenal need a point at SC Braga on 23 November to qualify for the round of 16.
