Valencia CF's ambitions of advancing to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals have been dealt a blow after Aritz Aduriz was ruled out of their round of 16 second leg against FC Schalke 04.
The 30-year-old forward suffered a bad ankle sprain during the closing stages of Saturday's 0-0 Spanish Liga draw at home to Real Sporting de Gijón. The early prognosis is that he faces four weeks out, sidelining the former Athletic Club and RCD Mallorca player for the trip to take on Schalke in Gelsenkirchen on 9 March.
The sides drew 1-1 at Mestalla last week, with Aduriz helping to set up Roberto Soldado's opener against the Bundesliga club. He has scored 13 goals in 31 appearances this season.
