Latest domestic information

• The last time the Blues did not have a domestic game the weekend before a UEFA Champions League fixture was in May 2008, when they lost in the final to Manchester United FC on penalties.

• Chelsea picked up 25 points from their first ten league matches this season. It has taken 18 further matches to surpass that haul, Carlo Ancelotti's team collecting 26 points from a possible 54 in that time.

• The English champions have already lost seven league games this season; more than in any campaign since 2003/04, when they were also beaten seven times as they finished runners-up to Arsenal FC.

• Petr Čech made his 300th appearance for Chelsea at Blackpool, only the second non-British player to reach that landmark after Gianfranco Zola (312). Ashley Cole played his 200th game for the club at Bloomfield Road.

• Alex has been out since 28 November after undergoing knee surgery.

• Yossi Benayoun is expected to be out of action until next month with a torn Achilles tendon suffered in September.
