A club statement read: "Éric Abidal has a liver tumour for which he will have an operation next Friday in the BarnaClínic Grup Hospital under the treatment of Dr Josep Fuster Obregon."

The 31-year-old French international has made 22 Liga appearances this season and started five UEFA Champions League games, playing every minute of his side's round of 16 win against Arsenal FC.
