• Lionel Messi's second goal against Arsenal FC on Matchday 8 was Barcelona's 750th in UEFA competition.

UEFA Champions League statistics
• Barcelona have committed 76 fouls, fewer than any other team left in the competition.

• Messi is Barça's all-time leading scorer in the competition with 33 goals in 52 games. He overtook Rivaldo (25 in 45) on Matchday 1.

• Messi has scored eight this season and is the competition's leading scorer with Samuel Eto'o and Mario Gomez.

• Gerard Piqué is available after a one-game suspension; Andrés Iniesta is within a yellow card of a ban.

• Piqué's first goal since September helped stretch Barcelona's unbeaten run to eight games, seven of them wins.

• Thiago Alcántara made his first senior start in place of the suspended Xavi Hernández; Sergio Busquets deputised at centre-back. Messi was initially rested.

• Following Real Madrid CF's defeat by Real Sporting de Gijón the win left Barcelona eight points clear at the summit – at the same stage last term the pair were level.

• Barça had won all ten of their Liga away games this season, a club record, before a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijón on 12 February.

• The Catalan giants remain unbeaten on their travels in 22 league games, a Spanish top-flight record.

• Barcelona set a club record of 27 Liga games unbeaten with a 2-1 victory against Getafe CF on 19 March, surpassing their previous mark set in 1973/74. Saturday's win moved them onto 28, four shy of Real Sociedad de Fútbol's Spanish top-flight record.

• At 20 years, 203 days, Bojan Krkić became the youngest player to reach 100 Liga games for Barcelona against Getafe and marked the occasion with his first goal since December. Messi had held the record aged 21 years 256 days when he brought up his century in March 2009.

• The Catalan outfit are 22 matches unbeaten at the Camp Nou in all competitions, winning 20 including the last seven.

• Messi has scored 48 goals in 49 games for club and country this season but has not found the net in his last four matches.

• Barcelona's record 16-match winning run in the Liga, surpassing Real Madrid's 1960/61 mark of 15 under Miguel Muñoz, ended with the Sporting Gijón draw on 12 February.

• Barça's club record 28-match unbeaten run in all competitions ended when they lost 3-1 at Real Betis Balompié on 19 January in the Copa del Rey quarter-final, second leg.

• They had won the first meeting 5-0, however, and after an 8-0 aggregate victory over UD Almería they will now face Real Madrid in the final at Mestalla on 20 April.

• Xavi played his 550th game for Barcelona on 5 January, surpassing Migueli's club record.

• The 8-0 win at Almería on 20 November equalled Barça's record for a Liga away victory. The Camp Nou outfit triumphed by the same scoreline at UD Las Palmas on 25 October 1959.

• Maxwell missed the Villarreal trip with a sore thigh.

• Bojan picked up a right ankle injury while on Spain Under-21 duty last week but recovered to face Villarreal.

• Carles Puyol has been sidelined by a left knee problem since 22 January but is back in training.

• Pedro Rodríguez has not featured since suffering a groin strain in the 1-1 draw with Sevilla FC on 13 March.

• On 17 March Éric Abidal underwent surgery to remove a liver tumour.

• Jeffrén (left thigh, out since 20 January) made his return against Getafe on 19 March.

• Fernandinho started on Friday, his first competitive appearance since breaking his right leg on 10 September.

• Olexandr Kucher has not played since injuring his knee during Ukraine's 1-1 draw in Sweden on 9 February.

• Luiz Adriano (head, chest), Chygrynskiy (ankle), Eduardo (ankle) and Marcelo Moreno (knee) all picked up injuries against Volyn, though Luiz Adriano and Moreno returned on Friday.
