Barcelona's Montoya to miss rest of season

FC Barcelona must make do without Martín Montoya for the remainder of the campaign after the full-back suffered a broken collarbone and dislocated left shoulder on his first start.

FC Barcelona will be without full-back Martín Montoya for the remainder of the season after he suffered a broken collarbone and dislocated left shoulder during his team's 2-1 defeat by Real Sociedad de Fútbol on Saturday.

Given his first start so Daniel Alves could rest ahead of Barça's UEFA Champions League semi final second leg with Real Madrid CF, the 20-year-old fell awkwardly in the tenth minute and was replaced by the Brazilian shortly afterwards. Following analysis by club medics, the defender is estimated to be out for up to six weeks.

The Spanish champions have also confirmed that Gabriel Milito suffered a thigh tear while scoring a goal that was subsequently disallowed in the 78th minute of the Liga encounter, though the the extent of the damage has yet to be determined.

Josep Guardiola's side, who have also lost Bojan Krkić (knee), Eric Abidal (liver tumour) and Adriano (hamstring) to injury and illness in recent weeks, and were without Andrés Iniesta (calf) for Wednesday's first leg, resume their tie with Madrid 2-0 ahead after Lionel Messi's double at the Santiago Bernabéu.
