Bayern get hold of Boateng

Manchester City FC have agreed to sell Jerome Boateng to play-off contenders FC Bayern München for a €14m fee, with the Germany defender to sign a four-year contract.

FC Bayern München have confirmed the acquisition of German international defender Jerome Boateng.

The versatile 22-year-old arrives from Manchester City FC in a €14m transfer, pending a medical. Boateng had been targeted by Bayern for several weeks and following the English club's signing of Gaël Clichy and Stefan Savić, City finally agreed to let Boateng leave for Munich where he will have a four-year contract.

"We had some intense negotiations and it was a long road until we could finally get the transfer sealed," Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said. "Jerome Boateng was our ideal candidate for central defence."

Boateng joined City in 2010 from Hamburger SV, having begun his career with home-town club Hertha BSC Berlin, but his season in England was restricted by injury; he made only 16 Premier League appearances. The 13-times capped Boateng will fly from City's Los Angeles training camp to Munich and complete the move after a medical with the UEFA Champions League play-off entrants.

The 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship winner is Bayern's second recruit from England in the last 24 hours: 18-year-old forward Dale Jennings has landed in Bavaria from third-division Tranmere Rovers FC for an undisclosed fee. The teenager will initially link up with Bayern's reserve team. "This is an amazing opportunity for Dale and one which any younger player would jump at," Tranmere manager Les Parry said.
