FC Zürich have been dealt a blow in the build-up to their UEFA Champions League play-off against FC Bayern München with the news midfielder Stjepan Kukuruzović has torn cruciate ligaments in his knee.

Kukuruzović suffered the injury during Zürich's 2-1 Swiss Super League victory at champions FC Basel 1893 on Saturday and will undergo surgery this week. The 22-year-old featured in both legs of Zürich's third qualifying round win over R. Standard de Liège and will be unavailable for the play-off first leg in Munich on Wednesday and the return in Zurich on 23 August.
