AC Milan have announced that Italy midfielder Alberto Aquilani will join the Serie A champions on a one-year loan from Liverpool FC.

The San Siro outfit will have the option to make the deal for the 27-year-old permanent next summer. Aquilani, who spent last season on loan at Juventus, joined Liverpool in 2009 from home-town club AS Roma. He made 18 Premier League appearances during his sole campaign at Anfield, scoring one goal.

"This is a turning point in my career," Aquilani said. "I have different qualities but replacing a player like Andrea Pirlo in midfield is a huge responsibility. It's up to me to give everything and earn the trust of the club." Milan begin their UEFA Champions League challenge on 13 September away to holders FC Barcelona in Group H.
