• Lucescu oversaw his 360th match at the Shakhtar helm on 18 September as the Pitmen beat FC Vorskla Poltava 1-0. That eclipsed the club record set between 1960 and 1969 by Oleg Oshenkov, who orchestrated 134 victories in 359 games in charge. Lucescu has now won 251 in 365.

• Eduardo broke the deadlock in Croatia's 2-0 UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying win against Latvia on 11 October in which Darijo Srna also played. His side were restricted to a play-off place, however, as with Srna suspended they had been defeated 2-0 in Greece four days earlier.

• Tomáš Hübschman was sent off as the Czech Republic lost 2-0 to Spain on 7 October and was suspended as his side booked a UEFA EURO 2012 play-off spot with a 4-1 triumph over Lithuania four days later.

• Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (4-1 win, 7 October) and the Republic of Ireland (1-2 loss, 11 October) as Armenia missed out on the play-offs.
