Sagna out for three months at Arsenal

Bacary Sagna will miss the rest of Arsenal FC's UEFA Champions League Group F campaign after fracturing a fibula in Sunday's 2-1 north London derby loss at Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Arsenal FC have confirmed that French right-back Bacary Sagna will not play again in 2011 after fracturing the fibula in his right leg during Sunday's 2-1 Premier League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur FC.

The 28-year-old landed awkwardly after a collision with Spurs defender Benoît Assou-Ekotto in the second half at White Hart Lane, and was taken to hospital. Sagna will see medical experts and team doctors today for further assessment, with a club statement saying: "It is expected that Bacary will be out for approximately three months and a surgical procedure cannot be ruled out at this stage."

Sagna has played in both of Arsenal's UEFA Champions League group stage game and in six of their seven Premier League outings. His absence is also bad news for France, who had called up Sagna for the crucial UEFA EURO 2012 Group D games against Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A lowly 15th in the Premier League, Arsenal will not be able to call on midfielder Jack Wilshere until next year due to an ankle injury while defender Thomas Vermaelen has yet to recover from a similar problem.
