Evra magnanimous as United beat Oţelul

Patrice Evra gave FC Oţelul Galaţi credit for causing Manchester United FC problems in their 2-0 victory in Romania, saying: "They did not make it easy for us, but a win is a win."

Patrice Evra said manager Sir Alex Ferguson had urged his Manchester United FC team at half-time to find the "killer" pass that would produce the goal they needed to kick-start their UEFA Champions League campaign. The feeling in the FC Oţelul Galaţi camp was that the ensuing 2-0 defeat was hard on them, although Liviu Antal took heart from the fact they have improved with every Group C game.

Patrice Evra, United defender
They had a lot of pressure and the first half was not easy for us. We had a lot of possession of the ball but we needed to find the killer pass. It was what the manager said to us at half-time, to find the killer pass to enable us to score.
I congratulate Oţelul because they did not make it easy for us, but a win is a win. We are not so happy with the way we played because we didn't perform the way we would have liked, but it was important that we picked up the three points.

Anders Lindegaard, United goalkeeper
We shouldn't think too much about how we won this game. The fact is we won it and that's what we came for. It's a relief for the team. We made it hard for ourselves by drawing the first two games and we should have had more points.
Wayne Rooney showed how important a player he is for the team. If he's not the best player in the world he's certainly one of the best. And Patrice Evra is one of the players who impresses me the most. He plays almost every game and always at an extremely high level. He's also a very nice guy, always smiling and positive. It means a lot to have him in the team.

Liviu Antal, Oţelul forward
I think a draw would have been a fair result, but with every game in this competition we are getting better because we are gaining in experience. We don't have particular objectives for the remaining games – just to play better. The fans were fabulous and we thank them for getting behind us. We hope that they will be with us again for the next home game.

Gabriel Giurgiu, Oţelul midfielder
We deserve to have picked up some points so far but that's football. We must do better in training and hope that we get some points in the next games.
