Villarreal CF have suffered a major injury setback ahead of their UEFA Champions League Group A fixture against Manchester City FC, with Cristian Zapata, Cani, Marco Ruben and Marcos Senna all ruled out, while Javier Camuñas remains doubtful.
The news will come as a blow to Juan Carlos Garrido, who last week lost Giuseppe Rossi for six months with a serious knee injury. Zapata is the latest to be laid low after straining a ligament in his right knee during Saturday's 2-0 Liga win against Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, a complaint which is likely to sideline him for five weeks.
Cani is expected to be out for seven days more having sustained the same injury at the weekend, when forward Ruben strained a left adductor muscle. Senna will be rested for the visit of Robert Mancini's side after complaining of discomfort in his left hamstring, whereas Camuñas will be given a fitness test on a bruised right fibula.
