Karim Benezma said confidence was coursing throughout the whole Real Madrid FC team after booking progress from UEFA Champions League Group D with a 2-0 win at Olympique Lyonnais, Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 99th and 100th goal for the club. Lyon midfielder Ederson was keen to take heart from the improved second-half showing, but knows the French outfit now face "a battle" with AFC Ajax, who they host on 22 November needing to win.
Karim Benzema, Real Madrid forward
We all feel very confident at the moment, and I don't just mean the attackers. The defenders and the goalkeeper are also in good form.
We have a good team and we're winning a lot of games. Hopefully this run will continue.
We managed to score the goals we needed but it wasn't the same game tonight as in Madrid. Lyon fought hard and we are happy to be going home with three points. I hope Lyon will get the results they need to qualify. They started the second half well, created some opportunities and hit the bar, but we also had chances so we were never scared. I fired in some good shots but Hugo Lloris is a really good goalkeeper and he kept them out. Lyon are lucky to have him. Real Madrid had never won at Stade de Gerland before, so I'm happy they ended that run when I was playing for them.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid forward
The most important thing tonight was that the team won. Our coach told us that we should look to win here as it would secure qualification. We played well. It was a difficult game against a tough team. We are all very happy that we're through. I'm not concerned as to which is my favourite goal [of the last 100], all I am concerned about is that the goals help the team to win. I don't want to start comparing Madrid to Barcelona right now. We are continuing on our own path.
Ederson, Lyon midfielder
We know Real Madrid are a strong team and we expected them to pose us problems. They close you down very well, making it hard to bring the ball out, and that's the reason why we conceded the free-kick that led to the first goal. But we feel like we could have got something from the game.
We played better in the second half and created some good chances. I had a shot from outside the box and another from closer in. Maybe I should have curled the ball as I usually do but I opted for power and unfortunately the goalkeeper was well placed. We hit the bar and created other chances, but the ball didn't go in. There are two games to play and we need to try to win them both.
It's going to be a battle between Ajax and ourselves, so we'll do our best to qualify.
Maxime Gonalons, Lyon midfielder
This Real Madrid is stronger than the teams of recent seasons and we've seen that again tonight. Whenever we lost the ball they counterattacked in impressive fashion. We are satisfied with our second half, though, because we gave everything and created quite a few chances. Unfortunately we couldn't convert them. But we posed them difficulties and that's encouraging. It'll be like a final against Ajax. We have the advantage of playing at home. It spices things up in the group.
