Kroos content as Bayern flex muscles

Toni Kroos told UEFA.com he felt FC Bayern München fully deserved to progress as Group A winners, while Mario Gomez hopes this means they will "avoid the really big names" in the draw.

After setting up two goals in FC Bayern München's 3-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Villarreal CF, Toni Kroos told UEFA.com he felt the Bundesliga leaders fully deserved to go through to the knockout phase as Group A winners. Meanwhile, Bruno Soriano insisted Villarreal would give their all in their final game against SSC Napoli despite being consigned to finish bottom of the section.

Overall we've done very well in the group stage and we've certainly earned our place in the last 16

Toni Kroos, Bayern midfielder
We wanted to sew up top spot in the group as early as possible and thankfully we managed it tonight, albeit it with a little help from elsewhere. We were very solid and deserved the win. Overall we've done very well in the group stage and we've certainly earned our place in the last 16.

I like playing in both attacking and defensive midfield. Of course you're involved more as an attacking midfielder and there's more opportunity to set up goals, but I wouldn't ever say anything negative about the other position because I like playing there too.

Manuel Neuer, Bayern goalkeeper
It was important for us to win at home and to top the group. We performed well and scored three goals, unfortunately conceding one. We didn't think we'd have everything sewn up by the penultimate matchday, but we also know what we're capable of and we showed that here again tonight.

Mario Gomez, Bayern striker
We're delighted because we had a very difficult group. However, we've been solid throughout and deserve to finish top. We should avoid the really big names in the next round now.

It's a good position to be in because we'll be up against a second-placed team and we'll be able to play the second leg at home. It was important to get a positive result tonight because the Dortmund game left a few people with long faces here. We were disappointed not get a point then, but that's history now.

Jonathan De Guzmán, Villarreal midfielder
It was really difficult for us coming to Bayern München. It was a tough match and our mistakes at the back were punished severely. It was especially hard going behind within the first couple of minutes. It was always going to be difficult after that.

Bayern have a very good team. They've been doing very well, especially in the Champions League and also in the league, so who knows? I think they're very strong this year and anything can happen.

It's been an experience for us. You learn a little more with every game. We worked hard last season to get into this position and it's tough to take knowing that we're out of the Champions League. The most important thing for us now is to concentrate on the league, get the points there and get some momentum going.

Bruno Soriano, Villarreal midfielder
It was tough. We thought we might have a chance, but we knew it was going to be difficult to come to this stadium and take anything. We knew this group would be very difficult. We don't have any choice but to give our all [in our final game against Napoli]. We have to try and deliver a good performance.
