• Leverkusen, with Kadlec suspended, suffered a loss that leaves them with only one win in seven outings in all competitions.

• It was Leverkusen's second loss in 12 fixtures since their defeat at Valencia CF on 1 November, though six of those games ended in draws.

• Robin Dutt's side have kept only five clean sheets in their last 23 matches in all competitions.

• On 4 February, Vedran Ćorluka made his club debut as Leverkusen were held 2-2 by VfB Stuttgart, conceding an 89th-minute equaliser after Kadlec had been dismissed (63).

Injury news
• Sidney Sam will miss the Barcelona tie. He suffered a muscle injury during Leverkusen's training camp in Lagos, Portugal from 4-13 January. He returned as a substitute against Stuttgart but lasted 12 minutes before being withdrawn with a thigh problem.

• Ballack will also sit out the first leg having suffered a calf injury in training on Sunday.

• Renato Augusto replaced Sam, his first appearance since undergoing knee surgery in late October. He came on again on Saturday.

• Derdiyok has been out since 2 February, when he trod on a shard of glass while at home and required seven stitches in his foot.

• First-choice goalkeeper René Adler has been sidelined since undergoing knee surgery in mid-July.

• Tranquillo Barnetta has not played since 4 June because of a persistent right knee problem.

• Josep Guardiola's side's 18-match unbeaten run, 14 of them wins, ended against an Osasuna side they beat 8-0 in September. It was Barcelona's second loss in 47 outings following a 1-0 defeat at Getafe CF on 26 November.

• Saturday marked the first time in 70 games that Barcelona have conceded three goals in a game, since a 3-1 Copa del Rey defeat at Real Betis Balompié on 19 January 2011.

• Before Saturday, Puyol had gone 56 games without defeat for Barcelona, since the 3-1 2009/10 UEFA Champions League semi-final loss at FC Internazionale Milano.

• Sergio Busquets has been out of action with a bruised knee since 4 February.

• Andrés Iniesta returned from a hamstring injury as a late substitute last Wednesday as Barça beat Valencia 2-0 to wrap up a 3-1 aggregate success in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

• David Villa could miss the rest of the season after breaking his left leg in the Club World Cup semi-final defeat of Qatar's al-Sadd Sports Club on 15 December. Andreu Fontàs will not feature until 2012/13 after tearing knee ligaments on 12 January.

• Ibrahim Afellay remains sidelined after suffering a knee ligament injury in training in September.

• In January, Éric Abidal and José Pinto signed one-year contract extensions tying them to the club until June 2013. Isaac Cuenca has committed until summer 2015.

• Messi collected the FIFA Ballon d'Or for the third successive year on 9 January, beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Xavi Hernández in the poll. Guardiola was named men's coach of the year.

• Guardiola was also named coach of the UEFA.com users' Team of the Year, a side captained by Xavi and also containing Daniel Alves, Gerard Piqué, Iniesta and Messi.
