Eight in place for 2004/05

Eight teams have so far claimed a place in the group stage of next season's UEFA Champions League.

First 16
AC Milan, AS Roma, Arsenal FC, FC Porto, Celtic FC, SV Werder Bremen, Panathinaikos FC and Olympiacos CFP will all definitely be in the first 16 for the 2004/05 staging of Europe's premier club competition. Of the eight, Porto are the only side who could still qualify as holders instead of domestic champions, having progressed to the last four of this season's edition.

Guaranteed places
In the case of Bremen in Germany and Panathinaikos and Olympiacos in Greece, these clubs remain unsure of their final league positions, although they are already guaranteed places in the Champions League group stage.

Third qualifying round
Six teams are already confirmed too for the third qualifying round. These are Juventus FC, Rangers FC, Belgian champions RSC Anderlecht, Czech champions FC Baník Ostrava, Swiss champions FC Basel and the new champions of Israel, Maccabi Haifa FC. In total, sixteen sides will progress from the qualifying rounds into the group stage.
