Mario Gomez has signed a three-year contract extension with FC Bayern München, tying him to the UEFA Champions League semi-finalists until summer 2016.
Gomez made a late appearance as a substitute as Bayern secured their place in the last four with a 2-0 victory against Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday, but the Germany striker has enjoyed a hugely prolific season. He is the joint-leading scorer in the Bundesliga with 23 goals, while his tally of 11 in the UEFA Champions League is bettered only by Lionel Messi's record-breaking 14.
"I have always said it – FC Bayern is a great club, I feel good here," said the 26-year-old, who arrived in Munich from VfB Stuttgart in summer 2009. "That's why I am happy that the extension is now in the bag. I am sure we can achieve a lot in the coming years and I want to play my part in that."
Bayern sporting director Christian Nerlinger added: "Mario Gomez has become one of the top goalscorers in Europe in recent years. We are happy he will continue to score goals for FC Bayern. With the extension with Mario and several other internationals, we have now laid down the groundwork for the coming years at FC Bayern."
