Germany midfielder Marko Marin will join UEFA Champions League finalists Chelsea FC from SV Werder Bremen at the end of the season for a reported €8m fee.

The 23-year-old, who was contracted to the Bundesliga outfit until June 2013, has already passed a medical in London. "I had a great time at Bremen with many great guys and lots of nice memories," said Marin. "But now I am looking forward to the new challenges in the Premier League at such an established club.

"Chelsea are my dream club and I am delighted to get the chance to play for them. Tottenham were interested as well, but I have chosen Chelsea because they are the perfect fit."

Bremen's director of sport, Klaus Allofs, said: "We have always said that we would be open to talks if any of our players received a good offer which was also interesting for Werder. We had good talks with the management at Chelsea, so we were able to reach an agreement quickly. In the coming weeks we will deal with the formalities."

Marin joined Bremen in 2009 from VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and has made 87 Bundesliga appearances for the club, scoring eight goals. A member of the Germany squad which won the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, he has been capped 16 times at full international level.
