Monaco dispel Morientes fears

AS Monaco FC are confident that Fernando Morientes will be fit for the UEFA Champions League final.
AS Monaco FC are confident that Fernando Morientes will be fit for the UEFA Champions League final against FC Porto in Gelsenkirchen.

Playing injury
The tournament's leading scorer with eleven goals, Morientes limped out of Saturday's 4-1 home defeat by Stade Rennais FC in Ligue 1, having scored the only goal for Didier Deschamps' side.

Medical opinion
Initial reports suggested the 28-year-old had sustained a serious injury, but Monaco doctor Eric Buracchi reassured supporters, saying: "He has suffered a left ankle strain which will not jeopardise his appearance in the final."

Possible absence
However, there is still a chance the Spanish international striker could miss the last game of his club's domestic season at FC Girondins de Bordeaux on Friday.
