Maloney signs new Celtic deal

Celtic FC's Scotland Under-21 forward Shaun Maloney has signed a three-year contract extension.

Scottish Under-21 international striker Shaun Maloney has signed his new three-year contract with Celtic FC.

Knee operation
The 21-year-old is currently recovering from an operation to repair damaged knee ligaments carried out in February and is not expected to play again this year for the Scottish double winners. However, manager Martin O'Neill has full confidence in Maloney, as was shown when the deal was first agreed in February.

O'Neill's delight
"I am delighted that Shaun has signed this new contract and pledged his future to the football club," O'Neill told the club's website. "Regardless of the injury we feel that Shaun is proving his worth here and when he comes back from the injury I expect him to be even more prominent in the first eleven."

'Working hard'
Maloney, whose re-signing follows the departure of Henrik Larsson, said: "I was very disappointed to pick up an injury last season but I am working hard to get back to full fitness. It is great for me that I have my future sorted out and there is no other place I would rather be than Celtic Park."
