Anders Lindegaard has committed his long-term future to Manchester United FC by signing a new four-year deal with the club.

The Danish international goalkeeper is now contracted to last season's Premier League runners-up until the end of the 2015/16 campaign. Lindegaard, 28, joined United from Norwegian side Aalesunds FK in January 2011 and enjoyed a brief spell as Sir Alex Ferguson's No1 12 months later until a knee injury curtailed his progress.

"There is nowhere in the world I would rather be than right here," Lindegaard, a member of Denmark's UEFA EURO 2012 squad, told the United website. "The competition for places is tough, as it should be in a club like this. It only makes us better as individuals and, more importantly, stronger as a team."

The Old Trafford outfit begin their 17th successive UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage, the draw for which takes place in Monaco on 30 August.
