• Eliaquim Mangala captained France Under-21s in a 4-0 friendly win against Chile on 10 September, three days after their 100% UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying record was ended with a 2-1 loss in Slovakia.

• Atsu opened the scoring as Ghana defeated Mali 2-0 in Accra on 8 September in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
