• Matchday one marked Benfica's 200th game in the European Cup; they have scored 348 goals.

• This is Benfica's 350th match in UEFA competition.

• Maxi Pereira is back from suspension following his red card in last season's quarter-final second leg against Chelsea FC. Luisão is banned until 14 November following an incident involving the referee against Fortuna Düsseldorf 1895 in an August friendly.

• Benfica are in a third successive group stage campaign, equalling a club record.

• The Portuguese side were one of ten teams that failed to score on matchday one.

• Óscar Cardozo is out of the Barcelona game with a left thigh injury.

• Rodrigo agreed a four-year contract extension on 23 August, keeping him with the Eagles until summer 2019. He has a €45m release clause.

• Benfica started their Liga campaign with a 2-2 draw against Braga – it is now nine seasons since the Eagles won their league opener, in 2004/05.

• Barcelona committed only four fouls on matchday one, fewer than any other side.

• Xavi Hernández completed 120 of his 140 attempted passes against FC Spartak Moskva, both the highest on matchday one by a distance.

• Carles Puyol returned to action against Getafe CF on 15 September, his first appearance since breaking a cheekbone on 26 August, but went off after 57 minutes having injured his left knee.
