Borussia Dortmund paid a heavy price for Sunday's 1-1 Bundesliga draw at Hannover 96, with three players now sidelined having been taken off injured.

Worst off is attacking midfielder Jakub Błaszczykowski, who suffered torn ligaments in his left ankle. The Polish international not only misses his country's FIFA World Cup qualifier with England next Tuesday, but is out of Dortmund's double-header against Real Madrid CF on 24 October and 6 November.

Struggling to make the first of those dates are Germany defender Mats Hummels and midfielder Sven Bender. Hummels has heavy metatarsal bruising and Bender picked up a head injury, meaning both are out for two weeks and definitely unavailable for Germany's fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden.

Dortmund are second in Group D, two points behind Madrid and three ahead of third-placed Manchester City FC.
