Roberto Carlos set to sign

Roberto Carlos has agreed a new contract with Real Madrid CF while Fernando Morientes is returning to the club.

Transfer rumours
The 31-year-old Brazilian's existing deal was due to expire in June 2005 and he had been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabéu, with Chelsea FC among his rumoured suitors.

Camacho persuasion
However, newly-appointed coach José Antonio Camacho has persuaded him to stay and finish his career in Madrid. Roberto Carlos has agreed to sign a new contract which will run until June 2007 with the option of a further year should he complete 30 games in official competition in the last season of the deal.

Brazil holiday
Roberto Carlos, who is currently on holiday in Brazil, will put his signature on the new contract when he returns to the Spanish capital. Madrid have also decided to bring striker Fernando Morientes back to the club. The 28-year-old Spanish international recently ended a superb season on loan at AS Monaco FC.
