Málaga CF have completed the loan signing of Uruguayan international defender Diego Lugano from fellow UEFA Champions League challengers Paris Saint-Germain FC.

The 32-year-old – who made just 12 Ligue 1 appearances, none of them this season, for the French team following his move from Fenerbahçe SK in 2011 – will stay at La Rosaleda until the end of the campaign. "I'm very happy to be here at Málaga, it was an opportunity I couldn't let pass me by," said Lugano, a FIFA Club World Cup winner with São Paulo FC in 2005.

Lugano, the Boquerones's second loan recruit of the month following Lucas Piazón, has scored eight goals in 76 outings for Uruguay, whom he captained to fourth place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Manuel Pellegrini's Málaga face FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, with the first leg at the Estádio do Dragão on 19 February. The sides meet in southern Spain on 13 March.
