• The Gunners lost 1-0 to second-tier Blackburn Rovers FC on Saturday, suffering FA Cup elimination by lower-league opposition for the first time under Arsène Wenger. It was their first FA Cup defeat at home in 35 matches.

• After a strong end to 2012, Arsenal struggled to get out of the blocks in the new year as they managed just one win in five games in all competitions. A 5-1 victory over West Ham United FC on 23 January proved a turning point, and before Saturday's setback the Gunners had won four out of five since, drawing the other. Tenth in the Premier League when they concluded their group stage campaign, Wenger's side now lie fifth.

• Theo Walcott has scored 11 league goals this season, reaching double figures for the first time in his career.

• Cazorla has scored nine league goals this season, already equalling his best return for a top-flight campaign set with Málaga CF last term.

• Walcott, who was due to be out of contract this summer, signed a new long-term deal with Arsenal in January.

• Kieran Gibbs will miss the first leg with a thigh strain suffered on 30 January.

• With 21 points from 15 games, Arsenal made their worst start to a league season since 1994/95 (19).

• Tomáš Rosický missed the first four months of the campaign with a tendon problem. Łukasz Fabiański, who injured his ankle in training on 16 October, has not played this season.

UEFA Champions League statistics
• Bayern have conceded 396 goals in UEFA competition.

• Claudio Pizarro's 16-minute hat-trick against LOSC Lille on matchday four was the third fastest in UEFA Champions League history.

• Bayern are ten home games unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League, discounting last season's final, since a 3-2 loss to FC Internazionale Milano in the 2010/11 first knockout round – their only defeat in 18 home outings.

• The German club won 59 corners in the group stage; more than any other team.

• Manuel Neuer played every minute of Bayern's group stage campaign.

• Jérôme Boateng is banned for both legs of the tie following his matchday six dismissal. Dante, Javi Martínez and Bastian Schweinsteiger will incur a suspension with their next yellow cards.

• Bayern are one of three last-16 teams who did not add to their squads, with Celtic FC and FC Barcelona.

• Bayern have been irresistible since concluding the group stage in December, stretching their unbeaten run to 18 games in all competitions, since a 2-1 loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 28 October. After a month-long winter break that included a training camp in Qatar, Jupp Heynckes' side have won five out of five in 2013 and, with Leverkusen faltering, are now 15 points clear at the summit.

• The Munich outfit are on a six-game winning run and their haul of 57 points from 22 games is a Bundesliga record.

• Bayern have won ten out of 11 on their travels in the Bundesliga this season, the ever-present Manuel Neuer conceding just once in the process.

• Mario Mandžukić has scored in each of his five games for club and country in 2013, seven goals in all.

• Dante made his debut for Brazil on 6 February in a 2-1 loss to England at Wembley. Mandžukić was also in action in London that night, scoring in Croatia's 4-0 win against South Korea at Fulham FC's Craven Cottage.

• On 16 January Bayern announced that Josep Guardiola will succeed Heynckes on a three-year deal this summer.

• Philipp Lahm was named in the Team of the Year 2012 after a record 5.3m votes were received.

• Holger Badstuber and Thomas Müller have signed contract extensions tying them to Bayern until 2017.

• Bayern secured the title of autumn champions (the side top of the Bundesliga after 17 games going into the winter break) with three games to spare – no team has ever achieved it earlier.

• Bayern will host holders Borussia Dortmund on 27 February in the German Cup quarter-finals.

• Badstuber could miss the rest of the season after rupturing knee ligaments against Dortmund on 1 December. Mario Gomez missed the first three months of the season with an ankle injury.

• Jan Kirchhoff, a 22-year-old who can play at the back or as a holding midfielder, will link up with Bayern from 1. FSV Mainz 05 this summer on a three-year deal.

• Bayern's eight straight Bundesliga victories at the start of the season was a new record, surpassing the mark of seven set by themselves (1995/96), 1. FC Kaiserslautern (2001/02) and Mainz (2010/11).

• Bayern's win against Valencia CF on matchday one was their sixth in as many games in 2012/13. The last time they began the season with six successive victories, in 2000/01, they claimed the UEFA Champions League.
