Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a blow ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at FC Shakhtar Donetsk with the news that midfielder Kevin Grosskreutz will miss out with a viral infection.

The 24-year-old, who featured in five of Dortmund's Group D fixtures, has spent the last two days under observation in hospital and therefore sat out Saturday's surprise 4-1 Bundesliga home defeat by Hamburger SV. After that game, coach Jürgen Klopp said: "Kevin definitely won't be able to play on Wednesday."

The Bundesliga title holders are also sweating on the fitness of Grosskreutz's fellow Germany midfielder İlkay Gündoğan, who suffered the recurrence of a toe injury after making a substitute appearance against Hamburg.
